"Name of consultation: Proposed Submission Greater Cambridge Local Plan (shortlink: tinyurl.com/localplan2026) From: Greater Cambridge Shared Planning  Time to complete: Around 10-15 minutes, depending on how much information you’d like to give Format: Online survey Deadline: 25 September 2026 5:00pm"

"The Local Plan is the document which will steer development in Cambridge City and South Cambridgeshire, the area covered by Greater Cambridge, over the next twenty years until 2045. All development will need to demonstrate how it fits with the requirements of the Plan, from additions to biodiversity, enhancement of the built environment, and how it can help increase social cohesion. In our view the section relating to the requirements for cycle parking, and parking in general, is not robust enough and would allow developers all of the ‘wiggle room’ they need to propose and build substandard provision for the storage of cycles, especially adapted and oversized-cycles. Additionally, the amount of bike storage proposed for student accommodation is less in the centre of Cambridge than for students living elsewhere. This would lead to overspill onto public cycle stands, and the public realm in general, leading to fewer spaces available overall and potentially hazards on the street."

"2. Find the comments page under Policy I/CV: Cycle and vehicle parking:"

"The Plan is not sound because Policy I/CV is not effective and not consistent with national policy."
