"Elections Alberta is looking for more election workers in the High River area, ahead of the referendum on October 19, 2026. This is the biggest election officer recruitment effort in the province’s history. Blanche Schellenberg, Returning Officer ED #73 Livingstone-Macleod, is looking for more applications in and around High River. “If you live in High River or the surrounding area, please consider coming forward. This is a great opportunity to work alongside your friends and neighbours to help deliver this event.” So far, Elections Alberta has received over 520 applications in the Livingstone-Macleod Electoral District. There are 200 night positions for the count remaining to be filled and about 70 day positions available. Applications are reviewed as they come in. There are a range of roles available, including ballot counters and the people who staff the voting locations. Albertans can find the available positions and learn how to apply here: https://www.elections.ab.ca/jobs/election-officer-recruitment/election-officer-recruitment/ Applicants need to live in Alberta, be 16 years or older (some roles require 18 years or older) and be eligible to work in Canada. “I think this will be a really good experience for people. You get paid, your training is also paid, and you get to spend time with your local community,” said Schellenberg. “If you’re in High River, or wherever you are in Alberta, please consider applying.” What voters can expect The referendum is focused on ten questions, which can be found on the Elections Alberta website: https://www.elections.ab.ca/elections/referendum/ Each question will be on a separate colour-coded ballot. As the voting process will involve responding to ten ballot questions, voters may need more time to consider their responses. Elections Alberta encourages electors to go online and familiarize themselves with the questions and how they wish to respond before coming to vote. Elections Alberta is unable to provide any education or information about the meaning of questions, as questions were designed by the Government of Alberta. Additionally, electors are encouraged to review the 50 authorized ID options available to them and have their ID ready when they arrive at the voting location. If an elector has changed their name recently, they will need to have ID with their new name and updated their voter registration. Electors have the following voting options available to them: Election Day, October 19: Voting locations will be open from 9:00am to 8:00pm. You can find your assigned voting location on your Where to Vote card, which will be mailed to you at the end of September. You can also check Elections Alberta’s online Where to Vote tool. Every elector is assigned an Election Day voting location based on their place of ordinary residence. Electors may only vote at their assigned voting location. Advance Voting, October 13-17: Electors may vote at any advance voting location established in their electoral division. Electors can find their advance voting locations on the Where to Vote card mailed to them, or using the Where to Vote tool. Advance voting locations will be open from 9:00am to 8:00pm. Every electoral division will have at least one location open for the full advance voting period. Special Ballot/Vote by Mail: Electors may request a Special Ballot if they wish to vote by mail. They do not need a reason to apply. Requests can be made until September 25, 2026, and completed packages must be returned by mail, and received by Elections Alberta in Edmonton, by 5:00pm on October 16, 2026. Electors are reminded to use their legal name when applying for a special ballot so their request can be processed."
