"The Seikilos epitaph is a marble tombstone from the first century that has a song recorded in its stone inscription. The large letters, in Koine Greek, contain a poem about grief. They are accompanied by marks above each word that indicate the musical notation. The stone was discovered in 1893 in the town of Ayden, Turkey, and followed a circuitous route to the National Museum of Denmark in Copenhagen, where it resides today. We have documentary evidence of older songs, but those are in fragments, while this stone contained a complete song. The musical notation on the Seikilos epitaph is not so old that it couldn't be translated, and that's why we are able to hear the song as it was meant to heard. The lyrics are appropriate to a tombstone, about the fleetingness of life and the futility of grief. Instead, we are encouraged to enjoy life while we have it."

"The small cat in Bolivia called the tilcayo has long been known to local people, but scientists considered it a tiger cat, or oncilla, until recently. A genetic study revealed it to be a separate species, now named Leopardus tilcayo. The study also indicates that tiger cats are actually up to five separate species. In 2016, a man in Bolivia took in an odd-looking kitten and kept it for a year. Realizing it was a wild cat, he took it to a sanctuary, where biologist Paola Nogales-Ascarrunz noticed the cat's unique features and studied it. When a team of geneticists analyzed the cat's DNA, it was discovered to be a new species. (That cat, named Tigrino, is ten years old and still living at the Senda Verde animal refuge.) A tilcayo is smaller than a house cat, only about three pounds. They live hidden high in the eastern side of the Andes Mountains in Bolivia.
