Today we’re introducing dendroarchaeology 🪵“Over the past twenty-five years, dendrochronology, or tree-ring dating, has been increasingly used to more accurately date historic structures, with the science used in this fashion described as dendroarchaeology.Using dendrochronology it is possible to determine a tree’s felling date to within six months, assuming the tree species encountered has regional dated master chronologies against which to compare the buildings tree-ring width data,” explains William Flynt, who conducted the dendroarchaeolgy report. Flynt extracted small samples from the Old Mill’s timber framing to begin this process in early September.
